“the world from whose perspective?” 11 x 14" original painting
Mindfulness of waste is something that I think about and try my best with throughout my creative practice.
As leftover paint build up on my palette, I realized how beautiful it looked in its own way.
These colorful, textured pieces hold so much story from each painting they helped create.
This piece is textured and has a shiny varnish bringing out the colors.
When I began laying the pieces down I placed them organically. I realized the image could resemble continents and land, like our earth in a way.
I was also listening to a podcast, Stuff You Should Know "Who Gets to Name Continents?", and was intrigued while they discussed map making.
Here's a quote from the podcast:
"when you draw a map, you are making a political statement. It's just there's such a sense of otherness and togetherness based on geographical distribution. It's interesting. It says a lot about the human psyche."
